Description of key information

Several studies regarding the toxicity of the test substance are available.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Acute toxicity: via oral route

Endpoint conclusion
Dose descriptor:
LD50
Value:
632 mg/kg bw

Additional information

For oral route there are hints from all studies that the effect level most likely is in the range between 400 and 1000 mg/kg bw. With regard to the availability of study details the lower value of the Hoechst study (key) is the most reliable. The cat study gives valuable hints to the effects of the substance in blood.

There is no inhalation study available, but because of the low vapour pressure of the substance the inhalation route is not considered revlevant for exposure.

Only one, very old dermal study was found. There are several hints, that chlorotoluidines can be resorped through the skin (BUA Stoffbericht 55).

Justification for classification or non-classification

Because of the oral toxicity and the ability of resorption through skin it is justified to classify the substance as harmful for oral route and in contact with skin. The inhalation route can be excluded because of exposure considerations.
