Description of key information

Key study: Test method EEC C3, OECD 201. GLP study. After 72 hours of exposure, the EbC50 (biomass) and ErC50 (growth rate) respectively were 13.8 and 22.0 mg/l in green algae. The NOEC for both area under the growth curve and growth rate was 4.34 mg/l.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
22 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:

Additional information

Key study: The effect of the test item on the growth of the unicellular green alga Selenastrum capricornutum was assessed under non-axenic conditions. The study was conducted in accordance with EEC Methods C3 and OECD Guideline 201. Triplicate algal cultures, with an initial cell density of 1x10E+04/ml, were exposed to test item dissolved in algal nutrient medium at nominal concentrations of 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50 and 100 mgl/l for 72 hours. After 72 hours of exposure, the EbC50 (biomass) and ErC50 (growth rate) respectively were 13.8 and 22.0 mg/l in green algae. The NOEC for both area under the growth curve and growth rate was 4.34 mg/l.
