Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air, administer oxygen or artificial
respiration if necessary.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse with water for 15 minutes, seek medical attention.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with soap and water.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting except under the direction of a
physician.
Fire-fighting measures
Recommended extinguishing agent: Water spray or dry chemical may be used.
Product arising from burning: Combustion products may contain carbon and nitrogen oxides
together with some chlorine-containing compounds and soot.
Product determined by test: N
Protective equipment: Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus.
Accidental release measures
Emergency measures in case of spillage: Avoid dust formation, vacuum up or shovel into secure
containers for disposal by incineration.
Wear suitable protective equipment (cf 2.3.1) throughout
the operation. Avoid contamination of water courses.
Handling and storage
Handling: Avoid all contact with the substance, observe good personal
hygiene. Impervious gloves, protective clothing and eye
protection should be worn when handling the substance. For
indoor operations (eg repacking), local exhaust ventilation
should be used. If adequate ventilation cannot be provided,
use an air purifying respirator with pesticide cartridge.
Storage: Store away from sources of direct heat in a dry area.
Packaging of the substance and or preparation: The substance may be packed in 200 litre steel drums for
transport.

Stability and reactivity
Danger other than fire: None reported.
Chemical reaction with water: The substance hydrolyses slowly at neutral pH but more
quickly at alkaline pH. Degradation products will be
aromatic and aliphatic acids and alcohols.
Dust explosion determined by test: N
Disposal considerations
Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery for reuse by recrystallisation is possible (A613).
Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: The substance is unstable under alkaline conditions.
Whilst hydrolysis will remove the hazardous properties
identified, the possible hazards of the hydrolysis products
are not known. (A632)
Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Disposal at a controlled landfill site is possible.
(A650)
Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance should be disposed of by incineration at an
approved facility equipped with waste gas treatment to
remove nitrogen oxides and chlorine-containing compounds.
(A661)
Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended, do not allow the substance to enter
watercourses.
Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will not enter the public domain.
