Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air, if necessary seek medical advice.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse eyes immediately with plenty of water. Consult an

occulist.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove mechanically and wash immediately with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothes and protective clothes.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Drink great amounts of water. Either induce vomiting or

provide gastric lavage, then give active coal. Seek medical

advice.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Dry extinguishing agent, dry powder, CO2, foam or water.

Product arising from burning: CO2, CO, H2O, NOx, nitrogen containing compounds.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Protective clothes, breathing apparatus (depending on the

extension of the fire and the local situation.).

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Because of the sensitizing effects of the substance special

attention is recommended. Do not breathe vapours which are formed when the substance is in contact with water. Avoid skin contact. The substance must not enter into the

canalization. Keep ignition sources away. Provide good ventilation. Keep away unconcerned persons.

Collect spilt product mechanically. Adsorb residues with

adsorbend or dry sand and store in closed, well labelled

containers.

Cleaning personal should use the measures described in

2.3.1.

Discharge of the waste containers should take place

according to local and administrative regulations, e.g. by

controlled incineration.

Handling and storage

Handling:

Respect the usual precautions when handling chemicals. The substance generates aminogroups (pH in Wasser: 9.8) and 2-ethylhexanal in present of water. Therefore and due to the sensitizing effect of the substance wear protective clothes, gloves and goggles/face protection when handling the substance.

The processing of the substance esp. of greater amounts under humidity of atmosphere should only take place in well ventilated rooms. Furthermore provide good exhaustion in order to avoid high flammable mixtures of air and 2-ethylhexanal vapours. If greater amounts of 2-ethylhexanal vapour are generated wear gas mask (gas filter A; colour: brown). In case of high concentration of the vapour wear self contained breathing apparatus.

Change contamined clothes immediately.

Keep away from foodstuff and tobaco.

Storage:

Store whatever happens dry and tightly closed in a cool, good ventilated place. Avoid temperatures > 50°C and <0°C.

Keep store rooms according to conditions of good hygiene. Reclose all open containers tightly. Avoid product residues on the containers.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Respect the usual precautions when handling chemicals. The substance generates aminogroups (pH in Wasser: 9.8) and 2-ethylhexanal in present of water. Therefore and due to the sensitizing effect of the substance wear protective clothes, gloves and goggles/face protection when handling the substance.

Change contamined clothes immediately.

Keep away from foodstuff and tobaco.

Stability and reactivity

Chemical reaction with water: In contact with water 2-ethylhexanal (CAS Nr.: 123-05-7) is

generated. The vapours are heavier than air and they form

explosive mixtures with air. They are irritant to eyes and breathing tract.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will be used as reaction partner in

formulations with aliphatic resp. aromatic

polyisocyanate-prepolymers. A reuse or recycling from such formulations is in praxis not possible.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: No possibilities known.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: No discharge in waste sites. Substance is a liquid.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The recommended way of discharge is incineration. The usual

gases are formed which are generally generated when oxygen and nitrogen containing compounds are incinerated.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance must not enter the canalisation or in the

waste water. Informations concerning the degradation

behaviour in water purification plants are not available.

The substance reacts with water resp. humidity and shows a

biodegradation of 43 %.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: not applicable.

The substance is not used in the public domain.
