Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

To determine the biodegradation characteristics of Alchisor TAL 111, the following key studies are available for the analogue substance Alchisor TAL 123 and constituent categories C9-14 aliphatics (2-25% aromatics):
- OECD Guideline 301 F (Ready Biodegradability: Manometric Respirometry Test) with Alchisor TAL (Cidaria 1998); and
- OECD Guideline 301 F (Ready Biodegradability: Manometric Respirometry Test) with Shellsol H (ExxonMobil 1995).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

Alchisor TAL 111 is an alkenes C10 -C11, hydroformylation product, low boiling and can be characterised as a UVCB substance. As defined in the ‘Read-Across Justification Document’ section 13, data provided for the analogue substance Alchisor TAL 123 and the Alchisor TAL 111 consitutent category substances, Category 3 hydrocarbon solvents, are representative of Alchisor TAL 111 and suitable for assessment purposes. Study data for each analogue/constituent category has been evaluated and considered together. The most relevant and reliable study result from across the analogue/constituent categories has been identified and used to address the endpoint in question.

Analogue substance - Alchisor TAL 123

Alchisor TAL123 was assessed for ready biodegradability in a reliable (Klimisch 1), GLP compliant OECD Guideline 301 F (Ready Biodegradability: Manometric Respirometry Test) study. In this test Alchisor TAL 123 biodegraded to an extent of 78.38% after 28 days with an unacclimated sewage sludge inoculum. The test substance did not achieve 60% degradation with a 10-day window for ready biodegradability; Alchisor TAL 123 degraded 55.74% within the 10-day window. As Alchisor TAL 123 is a mixture, the 10-day window test is not applicable as the only determination of ready biodegradability as different components of the mixture can degrade preferentially (reference TG 103C). Consequently according to this study Alchisor TAL 123 can be considered readily biodegradable. In addition available information for the constituent categories of Alchisor TAL 123 support this finding.

Category substances - C9-C14 Aliphatics (2-25% Aromatics)

Shellsol H (identified as a mixture of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons) was assessed for ready biodegradability in a reliable (Klimisch 1), GLP compliant OECD Guideline 301 F (Ready Biodegradability: Manometric Respirometry Test) study. In this test Shellsol H biodegraded to an extent of 74.7% after 28 days with an unacclimated sewage sludge inoculum. The test substance was determined to be readily biodegradable.

In accordance with the technically robust approach defined in the 'Read-Across Justification' report in section 13, the most reliable and relevant study results from the analogue/constituent categories can be applied to the full Alchisor TAL 111 endpoint. As detailed above the representative constituent category of Alchisor TAL 123 (i.e., Category 3 hydrocarbon solvents) are reported to be readily biodegradable. In addition, the analogue substance, Alchisor TAL 123 specific study data provides further evidence to support the assertion that TAL 111 is readily biodegradable.
