Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Sampling and analysis

Analytical monitoring:
no
Details on sampling:
The test substance was suspended in artificial sewage at nominal loadings of 20, 500 and 1,000 mg/L using a 30- minute sonication to assist dispersion. The test flasks were inoculated with sewage sludge bacteria and aerated for 30 minutes. Following aeration the contents of the flasks were poured into darkened 300 mL BOD bottles fitted with oxygen sensing electrodes.

Test solutions

Vehicle:
no
Details on test solutions:
The test substance was suspended in artifical sewage at nominal loading of 20,5000 and 1,000 mg/l using a 30 minute sonication to assist dispersion.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
activated sludge of a predominantly domestic sewage

Results and discussion

Effect concentrations
Duration:
30 min
Dose descriptor:
other: inhibition of the rate of oxygen consumption
Effect conc.:
other: None of the tests indicated any significant inhibition of bacterial respiration compared with the controls
Details on results:
None of the test indicated any significant inhibition of bacterial respiration compared with the controls.
Results with reference substance (positive control):
In contrast to the BDP, the reference substance with 3,5-dichlorophenol inhibited bacteriation by 7% at a test concentration of 3.2mg/L, and 84% at 32 mg/L.

Any other information on results incl. tables

It was concluded that the BDP is not toxic to sewage bacteria up to the limits of its water solubility
