Description of key information

The toxicity to activated sludge respiration was determined by using OECD 209 in accordance with GLP. Test substance had no significant toxicity effects on the activated sludge during 3 h incubation at 24.5 mg / L test concentration. Based on the study results no EC-value could be determined. The total inhibition was 7.63 %, heterotrophic inhibition 9.04 %, and the nitrification inhibition 9.17 %, respectively.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
24.5 mg/L

Additional information

As the study is conducted according to OECD guideline 209 and in accordance with GLP, it is considered reliable without restrictions and can be used as a key study for CSA. Based on the study results the substance has no significant inhibitory effects on activated sludge after 3 hours incubation at test concentration of 24.5 mg/l. Based on the measurement of the rate of oxygen uptake in the BOD bottles and calculated oxygen uptake rates after 3 hours the total inhibition to activated sludge respiration was 7.63 %, heterotrophic inhibition 9.04 %, and the nitrification inhibition 9.17 %, respectively. The inhibition-% (7.63 -9.17 %) at 24.5 mg/l was considered as EC10 and used as a key value in CSA.
