Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Inhalation:

If inhaled, remove patient to fresh air. If not breathing give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult give oxygen. Obtain medical attention.

Skin Contact:

Flush skin with water. Wash contaminated clothing before re-use.

Eye Contact:

Immediately flush eyes with eyewash solution or clean water for 15 minutes. Obtain medical attention.

Ingestion:

Do not induce vomiting. Immediately give 2 glasses of water to drink. Never give anything by mouth to an unconcious person.

Obtain medical attention.

Note to physicians.

Activated charcoal mixture may be administered. To prepare activated charcoal mixture, suspend 50 grams activated charcoal in 400 ml water and mix thoroughly. Administer 5 ml/kg, or 350 ml for an average adult.

Fire-fighting measures

Flash point: does not ignite (PMCC)

Hazardous decomposition products including carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrogen fluoride, toxic gases or particles may be formed during combustion. These products may cause severe eye, nose, throat, and lung irritation or toxic effects.

Extinguishing media

Water spray, foam, dry chemical or CO2.

Fire fighting Instructions

Wear a self contained breathing apparatus. Wear full protective equipment.

Avoid breathing decompositon products.

Accidental release measures

Note: Review Fire fighting measures and Handling /Personal protection Sections before proceding with clean up.

Use appropriate protective equipment during clean up.

Spill clean up.

Soak up spillages with sawdust, sand, oil dry or other absorbent material. Shovel or sweep up. Flush spillage area with water.

Handling and storage

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wash thoroughly after handling.

Storage:

Keep container tightly closed. Keep away from open flames and heated surfaces above 200°C

Exposure controls / personal protection

Engineering controls

Keep container tightly closed. Use only with adequate ventilation. Vent heated extruder or dryer fumes outside work area. Do not aerosolize. In spray applications, use airless type pressure spray equipment at less than 60 psi, and exhaust ducts, drip pans, and other design features to minimise worker exposure to mists and overspray.

Keep away from open flames and heated surfaces above 200°C.

Personal protective equipement.

Eye/ face protection: wear safety glasses or coverall chemical splash goggles.

Respirators: wear suitable respiratory protection as appropriate.

Protective clothing: where there is potential for skin contact have available and wear as appropriate impervious gloves, apron, pants and jacket.

Exposure guidelines:

Perfluorobutyl ethylene:

PEL (OSHA): None established.

TLV (ACGIH) : 100 ppm 8hr TWA

AEL (Du Pont) 100 ppm 8hr TWA

Stability and reactivity

Chemical Stability

Stable at normal temperatures and storage conditions.

Incompatibility with other materials

None reasonably forseeable.

Decomposition

Hazardous decomposition products including carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrogen fluoride, toxic gases or particles may be formed during combustion. These products may cause severe eye, nose, throat, and lung irritation or toxic effects.

Polymerisation

Homopolymerisation will not occur. Copolymerisation can occur in the presence of free radical sources,  heat or UV light.

Disposal considerations

Treatment, storae, transportation and disposal must be in accordance with applicable Federal, State/Provincial and Local regulations.
