Description of key information

In an EU method C.2 test the 48-hour EC50 for Daphnia magna was calculated to be 36.6 mg/L, while the 48-hour EC0 was determined to be 13.3 mg/L.

A 48-hour acute daphnia toxicity test was carried out fot phenylethyl acetate according to EU method C.2. Daphnia neonates were exposed to the test substance at nominal concentrations of 0(control), 6.5, 13.1, 25.6, 51.1, and 102.3 mg/L. Two replcates per concentration were used with a total of ten daphnia in each vessel. Temperature was maintained at 18 -22± 1oC, with a photoperiod of 16 hours light and 8 hours darkness.Observations for mobility were made at 24 and 48 hours after test initiation. The 48 -hour EC50 was calculated as the geometric mean of the EC0 and EC100 values. The EC0 and EC100 were calculated from the arithmetic mean of the measured test concentrations.
