PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:
Sodium dimehtyl 5 -sulphonatoisophthalate (SIM-Ester) is not readily biodegradable and under environmentally relevant conditions hydrolytically stable (t0.5 of 268 days at pH 7, 15°C). No simulation biodegradation tests are available to finally conclude on the P/vP criterion.

The n-octanol/water partition coefficient (log Pow) was determined to be -2.86 (20°C) and the BCF was < 3. Thus, SIM-Ester is considered to be not B/vB. Sodium dimethyl 5 -sulphonatoisophthalate is not classified or likely to be classified as carcinogenic (cat. 1A or 1B), germ cell mutagenic (cat. 1A or 1B) or toxic to reproduction (cat. 1A,1B or 2) or STOT RE 1, or STOT RE 2 according to CLP. The EC50 values obtained in acute aquatic toxicity tests were above 0.1 mg/L. These data lead to the conclusion, that SIM-Ester does not fulfil the T criterion.
