Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Additional information:

An study to test the skin sensitisation potential of bismuth (III) trinitrate pentahydrate is considered to be scientifically unjustified.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
No data are available for describing skin sensitising effects of bismuth trinitrate or bismuth trinitrate hydrate.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Study does not need to be conducted if the substance is a strong acid (pH ≤ 2,0) or base (pH ≥ 11,5) (cf. section 8.3, Column 2, Annex VII of regulation (EC) 1907/2006). The pH value of the substance was measured before initiation an in vivo eye irritation study (see under 7.3.2 eye irritation) and the value of Bismuth nitrate, pentahydrate solution was below 2 (pH was between 1.36 – 1.49). Therefore, a skin sensitisation study does not need to be conducted and no information are available for classification.
