Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.14 (Explosive properties)
Version / remarks:
Directive 92/69/EEC, A.14 (Body responsible: NOTOX SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH B.V. 5203 DL 'S-HERTOGENBOSCH)
GLP compliance:
yes
Parameter:
other: More sensitive to shock than m-dinitrobenzene
Remarks:
migrated information
Remarks on result:
negative (not further specified)

Exposing the test substance to mechanical stress by shock did not result in discolouration or a vigorous reaction. Exposing the test substance to mechanical stress by friction did lead to a discolouration (from off-white to black), but no traces of a vigorous reaction were observed.

From this it is concluded that the test substance is not explosive when exposed to mechanical stress (shock and friction).

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Remarks:
Migrated information
Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties
Justification for type of information:

The test substance does not contain chemical groups which are associated with explosive properties.
The molecular structure of impurities were not taken into account.
The test substance is an inorganic molecule. According to this, the oxygen balance was not determined.
In conclusion, the test substance has no explosive properties.

Description of key information

Both endpoint study records lead to the conclusion that the substance is non explosive.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Both endpoint study records lead to the conclusion that the substance is non explosive.
