Key result
Surface tension:
68.1 mN/m
Temp.:
20 °C
Conc.:
1.036 g/L

The last average value of a measuring cycle represents the determined surface tension. This value contains an automatic correction and thus takes into account the hydrostatically effective liquid volume (weight of the liquid lamella hanging under the ring). The age of the tested solution (time span from preparation to measurement) was 1 to 396 min. 110 min. and 161 min. for the measurements. After pouring the solution into the measuring vessel, the respective final value was reached after approx. 7 - 11 minutes.

Conclusions:
The surface tension of a 1 g/L test solution was determined to be 68.1 mN/m. Thus, the substance is not surface active.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to OECD TG 115, Regulation (EC) No 440/2005 Part A, A.5, to determine the surface tension of an aqueous solution of the test item using the ring method. Therefore, a saturated solution of the test substance in ultrapure water was prepared in by adding 1 g of the test substance to 1 L of ultrapure water. The clear solution was transferred to the measuring vessel. The solution allowed stabilising at the test temperature (20°C). The surface tension was determined to be 68.1 mN/m at 20 °C. It was concluded that the test item is not surface active (surface tension > 60 mN/m).

Description of key information

The surface tension was determined to be 68.1 mN/m at 20 °C. It was concluded that the test item is not surface active (surface tension > 60 mN/m) (reference 4.10 -1).
