Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media:

Unsuitable extinguishing media:

High volume water jet

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

In case of fire cool endangered containers with water. May be released in case of fire: carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide.

Advice for firefighters

Special fire fighting procedures:

Standard procedure for chemical fires. Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment. Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations. Prevent fire extinguishing water from contaminating surface water or the ground water system. Retention of fire-extinguishing water in Germany: see FireExtinguishing Water Retention Directive "LoeRueRL":

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters:

In the case of respirable dust and/or fumes, use self-contained breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Wear personal protective equipment;

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Do not breathe in vapours or aerosols. Ensure adequate ventilation.

For non-emergency personnel:

No data available.

For emergency responders:

No data available

Environmental Precautions:

Do not allow entrance in sewage water, drainage systems, stretches of water, soil. Issue an immediate alarm report to the company environmental protection department if the product unintentionally leaves the production area.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:

Take up mechanically or with an absorbent material. Fill into marked, sealable containers. To be disposed of in compliance with existing regulations. Suitable absorbents: universal absorbent

Reference to other sections:

Wear personal protective equipment

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling:

Wear personal protective equipment;

Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Do not inhale gases/vapours/aerosols. Provide good ventilation or extraction. If possible, use material transfer/filling, metering and blending plants that are closed.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Keep in a cool, well-ventilated place. Avoid heat, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. Avoid exposure to high temperatures or direct sunlight. Keep containers tightly closed. Inadequate materials are: aluminium magnesium alloys. Suitable materials are: Unalloyed steel Use containers made of stainless steel. 1.4541 1.4571

Storage conditions:

Keep under nitrogen. Max. storage temperature: 55°C. Normal measures for preventive fire protection. Take measures to prevent the build up of electrostatic charge. Explosion protection equipment required. No sparking tools should be used. Observe prohibition against storing together! for example: Comply with regulations prohibiting storage of hazardous substances in non-stationary containers in the same room acc. to TRGS 510.

Storage Class:

10: Combustible liquids

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure controls:

Appropriate Engineering Controls:

If possible, use material transfer/filling, metering and blending plants that are closed, or provide for local suction devices. Ensure that extracted air cannot be returned to the workplace through the ventilation system. Explosion protection equipment required. Further Information ACGIH (American Conference of Governmental Industry Hygienists) Contact BUA  (Bundesverband der Messstellen für Umwelt- und Arbeitsschutz e.V.) .

Individual protection measures, such as personal protective equipment:

Eye/face protection:

Safety glasses with side-shields

Hand Protection:

Material: nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) gloves

Break-through time: > 480 min

Glove thickness: 0,4 mm

Additional Information: The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of EC Regulation 2016/425 and the standard EN 374 derived from it., Selection of protective gloves to meet the requirements of specific workplaces., Suitability for specific workplaces should be clarified with protective glove manufacturers., The information is based on our own tests, on data from literature and information from protective glove producers or is based on data obtained from similar substances., Be aware that in daily use the durability of a chemical resistant protective glove can be notably shorter than the break through time measured according to EN 374, due to the numerous outside influences (e.g. temperature)., Gloves should be discarded and replaced if there is any indication of degradation or chemical breakthrough.

Skin and Body Protection:

Wear suitable protective clothing. If necessary, full body protection suit (coverall). Select materials and equipment for physical protection depending on the concentration and volume of hazardous substances and the workplace involved. The personal protective equipment used must meet the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and amendments (CE certification). It should be defined in the work place in the form of a risk analysis according to Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and amendments.

Respiratory Protection:

In case of dusts/vapours/aerosols being formed or if the limit values like TLV are exceeded: use respiratory equipment with suitable filter (filter type A) or wear a self contained respiratory apparatus Note time limit for wearing respiratory protective equipment. Please note: National regulations. (DGUV Regulation 112-190) "Use of Respiratory Protection" must be observed.

Hygiene measures:

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Do not breathe in vapours or aerosols. Immediately remove contaminated clothing. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Private clothes and working clothes should be kept separately. Do not eat, drink or smoke when using the product. Wash with soap and water before eating, drinking, smoking or using toilet.

Environmental Controls:

The environmental regulations on the control and monitoring of environmental exposures are to be observed. Emissions from venting and processing equipment should be checked in order to ensure that the requirements of the Environmental Protection Law are satisfied. In some cases, exhaust air scrubbers, filters or technical changes to the processing plant will be required in order to decrease emissions to acceptable values.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity:

No data available.

Chemical Stability:

Under normal conditions: stable.

Possibility of hazardous reactions:

Vapours may form explosive mixture with air.

Conditions to avoid:

Keep away from heat and sources of ignition.

Incompatible Materials:

Not known.

Hazardous Decomposition Products:

In case of fire or thermal decomposition production of for example Carbon Monoxide. Carbon Dioxide.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods:

General information:

Review all local, state and federal regulations concerning health and pollution for appropriate disposal procedures. No waste key number as per the European Waste Types List can be assigned to this product, since such classification is based on the (as yet undetermined) use to which the product is put by the consumer. The waste key number must be determined as per the European Waste Types List (decision on EU Waste Types List 2000/532/EC) in cooperation with the disposal firm / producing firm / official authority.

Disposal methods:

With respect to local regulations, e.g. dispose of to suitable waste incineration plant.

Contaminated Packaging:

If there is product residue in the emptied container, follow directions for handling on the container's label.
