First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Seek immediate medical attention.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse with copious amounts of water. Seek immediate medical

attention.

Emergency measure - Skin: Rinse with soap and water. Launder clothes before re-use. If

irritation occurs seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek immediate medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water, carbon dioxide, foam or dry chemical.

Product arising from burning: The substance is combustible and will burn if involved in a

fire, evolving noxious fumes (eg carbon oxides). However,

there is no experimental evidence to support the anticipated

combustion products.

Protective equipment: Full chemical and flame resistant protective clothing,

gloves, boots and self-contained breathing apparatus must be

worn.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Evacuate personnel from immediate vicinity.

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment conforming to

the relevant national or international standards as

mentioned in section 2.3.10.

Avoid dust formation by damping down with water. Absorb

spillages of solutions with a suitable inert material (eg

sand or soil). Carefully transfer the spillage to waste

containers, or use a wet/dry HEPA vaccum.Containers filled

with waste material must be labelled in the same way as the

original containers.

Clean the spillage area with water and detergent and

ventilate the area.

Dispose of waste material in accordance with local

regulations.

Handling and storage

Handling: The substance should be stored, handled and used in

conditions of good industrial hygiene and in conformity with

any local regulations in order to minimise exposure.

Engineering controls in the form of local exhaust

ventilation should be used to reduce exposure to the

substance.

When exposure cannot be prevented or adequately controlled

by LEV appropriate personal protective equipment should be

worn. Such protective equipment should conform to the

appropriate international or national standards as follows;

Chemical protective gloves to Standard EN374

Chemical resistant clothing to Standard EN368

Eye protection to Standard EN166

When necessary appropriate respiratory protection should be

used. e.g. a respirator conforming to EN136.

The standards mentioned above should be regarded as a

minimum.

Storage: Store in a well-ventilated area with low humidity to prevent

clumping.

Keep containers tightly closed when not in use. Ensure

containers are properly labelled.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Material is packaged in UN approved fiber drums.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: None known.

Chemical reaction with water: None which is hazardous.

Dust explosion: Material exhibits strong explosion characteristics if

ignited as a dust cloud. Material is highly susceptible to

accumulating static charges during processing and

uncontrolled static discharge may result in igniting a dust

cloud under certain conditions due to the low minimum

ignition energy. Provide suitable bonding and grounding for

containers and process equipment to control static charges.

Powder handling equipment such as dust collectors, dryers,

and mills may require additional protective measures (eg.

explosion venting).

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Handling of the substance will be by trained operators and

will be kept to a minimum.

Discharge to the environment will be minimal. Recovery from

minor spillages or accidental discharge is not feasible, and

such waste material will be disposed of according to local

and national regulations. In principle, it may be possible

to recover larger spillages of uncontaminated material for

subsequent use. Recycling of the material is not feasible as

it is consumed in the process.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: The notification tests have shown that the substance is not

considered hazardous to health.

No chemical treatment is known to neutralise the substance.

The dust hazard will be controlled by good engineering

processes such as local exhaust ventilation and PPE.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Contaminated containers or spillages of solutions mixed with

inert material (eg sand or soil) may be disposed of by

incineration at an authorised off-site facility in

accordance with local regulations. Trace quantities are

destroyed by biological oxidation in waste water treatment

plants. (A641)

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance can be disposed of by using a closed -cycle

incinerator with scrubber under controlled conditions at a

licensed waste treatment processor in accordance with local

and national regulations (A663).

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Significant quantities of the substance should not normally

be discharged directly to the sewage system or the aqueous

environment. Trace quantities in aqueous wastes can be

treated in secondary biological WWTP before discharge to

municipal treatmemt works.
