- EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)
- Deviations:
- no
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
- Version / remarks:
- 1995
- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- no
- Type of method:
- flask method
- Remarks:
- As the preliminary test showed that the water solubility was below 10 mg/L the column elution method would be the correct method for the determination of the water solubility. But this method is not applicable for mixtures.
- Key result
- Water solubility:
- < 10 mg/L
- Conc. based on:
- test mat.
- Incubation duration:
- 24 h
- Temp.:
- 20 °C
- Remarks on result:
- other: pH not stated
- Conclusions:
- The water solubility of the test item is below 10 mg/L.
- Executive summary:
The water solubility was determined according to OECD 105 using the flask method. As the preliminary test showed that the water solubility was below 10 mg/L the column elution method would be the correct method for the determination of the water solubility. But this method is not applicable for mixtures. Furthermore, the test item showed a decomposition depending on the pH value in preliminary tests. Additionally, according to the sponsor the test item decomposes under influence of UV radiation which is a desired property. For these reasons, the determination of the water solubility of this test item was not performed. According to the preliminary test it can be assumed that the water solubility of the test item is below 10 mg/L.
Reference
Solutions of the test item in acetonitrile / water and acetonitrile / citric acid buffer solution (pH 4), respectively, were measured freshly prepared and after 5 or 6 days. These measurements showed that the test item was stable at pH 4. Under neutral conditions the test item showed a degradation. For this reason, it can be assumed that the test item decomposes depending on the pH value.
According to sponsors information the test item is a mixture of benzophenone triesters with different substituents. The alternative determination of the hydrolysis behaviour according to EC 44012008, method C.7. is not applicable for mixtures.
Description of key information
The water solubility of the test item is below 10 mg/L.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
