According to REACH regulation (Annex XI, 2.), the study does not need to be done if it is technically not feasible: The determination of the n-octanol/water partition coefficient log Kow is technically not feasible due to the surface-active properties of the test substance.

According to EU RAR Dimethyl dioctadecylammonium chloride (2002), as DODMAC is a surface-active substance, the log Kow value can not be used to derive the environmental distribution constants. Instead of this, experimentally determined figures (BCF, Koc) are used. For justification for read-across please refer to Endpoint summary "Physical and chemical properties".
