Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
26.02.2019-01.03.2019
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
capillary method
Specific details on test material used for the study:
The sample was placed on a rotary evaporator at 40°C until no more water evaporated; the sample was spread onto trays and placed in an oven at 40°C for approximately 6 days with frequent agitation. The partially wet sample was removed from the trays and frozen. Whilst frozen the sample was ground to a fine powder then spread on trays and placed back into the oven at 40°C for 24 hours.

Decomposition:
yes
Decomp. temp.:
90 - 120 °C
Remarks on result:
not determinable
Remarks:
At 78°C the sample started shrinking and discolouring at 90°C. This continued up to 120°C.

Mass used (g) 0.002

Test Start Temperature (°C) 30

Test Final Temperature (°C) 350

Ramp Rate (°C/min) 6

Initial Melting Point (°C) 78

Final Melting Point (°C) -

Result: Decomposition 90 - 120°C

Conclusions:
Decomposition 90 - 120°C
Executive summary:

At 78°C the sample started shrinking and discolouring at 90°C. This continued up to 120°C. At 125°C the sample was not fully liquefied and started to generate gas and the sample was pushed up the tube. A colour change to brown was observed approximately at 134°C which can be attributed to decomposition. By 180°C only dark brown sample was visible in the capillary. As no melting point was observed no further testing was conducted.

Description of key information
