Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The submission substance Step 2 catalyst is readily biodegradable (OECD 310, Headspace Test): 71% biodegradation within 28 days based on ThCO2 evolution.

Additional information

A valid ready biodegradability test performed according to OECD 310 (Headspace test) compliant with GLP confirmed the ready biodegradability of Step 2 catalyst. Within 28 days, 71% biodegradation (mean value; Std. Dev. = 6; n=5) was achieved.

The simultaneous presence of 1-octanol and Step 2 catalyst in the toxicity control considerably stimulated biodegradation kinetics and extent (82% after 7 days; 103% after 14 days). It may thus be assumed that upon simultaneous presence of readily biodegradable substances in STPs or in the environment Step 2 catalyst will be degraded even faster than observed in the experiment without any other substance present in addition.

Due to the ready biodegradability of Step 2 catalyst, no higher tier simulation studies on degradation in surface water, sediment and soil were conducted.
