Description of key information

Based on the data for the individual components (L-alanyl-L-tyrosine, L-alanine and potassium chloride) it can be concluded that the 48h EC50 for the reaction mass of L-alanyl-L-tyrosine hydrochloride and potassium chloride is above 100 mg/L.

No data is available on the short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates of the reaction mass of L-alanyl-L-tyrosine hydrochloride and potassium chloride.

The substance consists mainly of the dipeptide L-alanyl-L-tyrosine hydrochloride (38 - 42%(w/w)) and potassium chloride (46 - 50%(w/w)). Besides these two main components only non-hazardous / non-classified amino acids/peptides in small amounts are present (e.g. L-alanine hydrochloride 4 - 7%(w/w)). Based on the composition of the substance it can be assumed that the results obtained with the individual main components (L-alanyl-L-tyrosine, L-alanine, and potassium chloride) apply likewise to the test material under investigation (reaction mass of L-alanyl-L-tyrosine hydrochloride and potassium chloride). Therefore read-across data for the dipeptide L-alanyl-L-tyrosine, L-alanine, and the salt potassium chloride is provided.

For potassium chloride a short-term toxicity study to aquatic invertebrates was available with the standard test species Daphnia magna and non-standard test species Ceriodaphnia dubia. The study was performed according to U.S. EPA methods which are equivalent or similar to OECD method 202 and the 48 hour-EC50 effect value is 660 mg/L (D. magna) and 630 mg/L (C. dubia; Mount, 1997).

In an OECD guideline study according to OECD202 an EC50 (48 h) of >100 mg/L was determined for L-alanyl-L-tyrosine.

Therefore, based on the data for the individual main components it can be assumed that the 48h EC50 for the reaction mass of L-alanyl-L-tyrosine hydrochloride and potassium chloride is above 100 mg/L.
