Conclusion on classification

Short-term toxicity results for daphnia and algae are available for the substance. The 48h-EC50 value to Daphnia magna was 2.8 mg/L. The ErC50 for algae was 1.3mg/L. Since the acute EC50 values are >1 mg/L, the substance is not lassified as for acute toxicity according to EU CLP (Table 4.1.0; a).

The only available chronic value is the NOEC of algae growth rate being 0.16 mg/L. According to CLP Figure 4.1.1, the chronic classification has to be determined based on this chronic value according to Table 4.1.0, (b) (i) (as the substance is not readily biodegradable) and based on adequate acute toxicity data of the other trophic level, being the EC50 value for Daphnia, in combination with environmental fate data according to Table 4.1.0, (b) (iii).

The most stringent outcome should be leading:

- The substance is not readily biodegradable according to OECD310 test. Based on the NOEC < 1 mg/L, the substance need to be classified for chronic Category 2 according to Table 4.1.0, (b) (i)

- As the EC50 value for Daphnia is between 1 and 10mg/L, and the substance has a log Kow of 2.75 - 4.86, which is considered to be >4 based on the worse case, the substance needs to be classified as chronic Category 2 according to Table 4.1.0, (b) (iii).

Overall, it can be concluded that the substance needs to be classified for aquatic environmental hazards Chronic Category 2 according to Regulation 1272/2008/EC (CLP) and its updates.
