Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The long-term toxic potential of the substance is evaluated by considering data on similar substances. Justification for Read Across is given in Section 13 of IUCLID.

The chronic toxicity of the metal ions to Daphnia magna were evaluated after the exposure of the organisms to the substances for 3 weeks. Twenty daphnids divided in four test chambers were exposed to concentrations ranging from 5 to 12 depending on the toxicant and the initial effects observed. A geometric series of concentrations was used for obtaining an approximation of toxicity; a linear series of concentrations was often used for delineating reproductive impairment levels. After the concentrations to be tested were determined, three to seven tests were run for each toxicant. At metai concentrations permitiing survival but impairing reproduction, daphnids weighed less than control animals. The decrease (16 % and 50 %) in the number of young born (reproductive impairment) and the LC50 were evaluated.

Decrease in animal weight and increase in the percentage of protein per animal and on GOT activity was notably greater with Magnesium and Strontium addition.

16 % reproductive impairment = 82000 μg/l (nominal), 50 % reproductive impairment = 125000 μg/l (nominal), LC50 = 190000 μg/l (nominal) - magensium

16 % reproductive impairment = 42000 μg/l (nominal), 50 % reproductive impairment = 60000 μg/l (nominal), LC50 = 86000 μg/l (nominal) - strontium
