Conclusion on classification

Short-term aquatic toxicity data are available for three trophic levels (fish, invertebrates and algae) for fresh- and saltwater species. The lowest acute effect values for fish (Oncorhynchus mykiss), aquatic invertebrates (Cloeon sp.) and algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) are 100 mg a.i./L, 0.01 mg a.i./L and 81.8 mg a.i./L, respectively. The substance needs to be classified as Aquatic Acute 1 (H400), with an M-factor of 10.

 

Long-term aquatic toxicity data are available for three trophic levels (fish, invertebrates and algae) for fresh- and saltwater species. The lowest chronic effect values for fish (Cyprinodon variegatus), sediment invertebrates (Chironomus riparius) and algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) are 1.7 mg a.i./L, 0.01 mg a.i./L and 81.8 mg a.i./L, respectively. In addition, chronic effects on the mayfly were tested in outdoor mesocosms representative of a typical pond community. The NOEC for effects on larval abundance and emergence of Cloeon dipterum was 0.3 μg a.s./L over the five weeks of constant exposure.

Regarding the adequate chronic aquatic toxicity data (lowest value ≤ 0.001 mg/L) and the substance being not readily biodegradable, the substance needs to be classified as Aquatic Chronic 1 (H410) with an M-factor of 100.

 

In conclusion, the substance is classified as Aquatic Acute 1 (H400) and Aquatic Chronic 1 (H410), with an M-factor of 10 and 100 respectively, as in accordance with EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation No. 1272/2008.
