Description of key information

Hydrolysis of GMT is dependent on the pH with half-lives of > 1 year at pH 4 (25 °C), 223 h at pH 7 (25 °C) and 17 h at pH 9 (25 °C).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
223 h
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

The half-life of GMT in water decreases under neutral (pH 7) and alkaline (pH 9) conditions with half-lives of 223 h (pH 7) and 17 h (pH 9) at 25 °C. At pH = 4.0 GMT can be considered as a hydrolytically stable compound and its t1/2 at 25°C was considered to be greater than 1 year. The degradation products were not completely measured but glycerol was identified to be one of the major degradation product of the hydrolysis.
