- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test O.1 (Test for oxidizing solids)
- Deviations:
- yes
- Remarks:
- use of potassium bromate
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Specific details on test material used for the study:
- - Identification: DNAN
- CAS No: 119-27-7
- Appearance/Physical state: Pale yellow powder
- Batch/Lot: 55503625 / 02/13
- Purity: 99%
- Expiry date: 28 April 2019
- Storage conditions: Room temperature in the dark - Contact with:
- other: Potassium bromate
- Duration of test (contact time):
- < 586 s
- Key result
- Sample tested:
- 4:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio
- Parameter:
- mean burning time
- Result:
- < 180 s
- Key result
- Sample tested:
- 1:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio
- Parameter:
- mean burning time
- Result:
- < 180 s
- Interpretation of results:
- GHS criteria not met
- Conclusions:
- The 4:1 and 1:1 test item:cellulose mixtures exhibited mean burning times greater than that of the 3:7 potassium bromate to cellulose mixture. This indicates that the test item is not an oxidizing solid.
- Executive summary:
The hazardous physico chemical properties of DNAN have been determined. The results are summarized below:
Oxidizing Solids Not an oxidizing solid, using a procedure designed to be compatible with Test O.1 of the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods manual of Tests and Criteria, 5th revised edition 2009 and Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on Classification Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures.

- Oxidising properties:
- non oxidising
Additional information
The determination of oxidising properties was conducted as a package of hazardous physicochemical testing on DNAN (Envigo Research Limited, DH30BX, 2018). testing complied with Test O.1 specified in the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods Manual of Tests and Criteria, fifth revised edition 2009 and Section 2.14 Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures, and in compliance with GLP.
The 4:1 and 1:1 test item:cellulose mixtures exhibited mean burning times greater than that of the 3:7 potassium bromate to cellulose mixture. This indicates that the test item is not an oxidizing solid.
Justification for classification or non-classification
Oxidizing Solids Not an oxidizing solid, using a procedure designed to be compatible with Test O.1 of the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods manual of Tests and Criteria, 5th revised edition 2009 and Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on Classification Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures.
