Description of key information

Aquatic toxicity studies offatty acids, tall-oil, manganese saltsare not available. Thus, read-across to the assessment entities soluble manganese substances and fatty acids, tall oil is applied since manganese cations and fatty acid anions determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Reliable data indicate that the moiety of ecotoxicological concern are manganese cations though manganese is an essential trace nutrient. The lowest chronic effect concentration is the 60-d NOEC of 0.01 mg Mn/L for Macrobrachium rosenbergii (giant river prawn). Data for fatty acids, tall oil point to a low (if any) toxic potential to aquatic invertebrates.
