Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
not specified
Conclusions:
The toxicity of the substance towards bacteria and protozoa was assessed. The "toxicity treshold" values, equivalent to NOEC, are 90 mg/L and 107 mg/L for Pseudomonas putida (Bacteria) and Entosiphon sulcatum (Protozoa) respectively.
Executive summary:

The toxicity of 2 -methylfuran towards Pseudomonas putida (Bacteria) and Entosiphon sulcatum (Protozoa) was assessed in a cell multiplication test, with endpoint assessment of cell multiplication inhibition after 8 days exposure. The test material was tested in a series of concentrations in a static test (pH 7).The result of the test was reported as the 'Toxicity Threshold', which is defined as the lowest test concentration that resulted in < 3 % inhibition compared to the control. The toxic threshold is considered to be equivalent to the NOEC. The reported toxic tresholds (or NOEC-8days) are 90 mg/L and 107 mg/L for Pseudomonas putida (Bacteria) and Entosiphon sulcatum (Protozoa) respectively.
