Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Magnesium-diisopropanolate hydrolysis very fast into isopropanol and magnesium hydroxide. The determination of the partitions coefficient is technically not feasible with magnesium-diisopropanolate and the endpoint is waived.

The half life of magnesium-diisopropanolate was estimated to be T1/2 < 1 min (Hydrolysis as a Function of pH). In all experiments with the chemically very closely related compounds magnesium methanolate and magnesium ethanolate, the hydrolysis takes place immediately in buffer solutions (pH4, pH7, pH9). Hydrolysis rates of >> = 90% are observed within << 1 minute reaction time.

As key information and for the chemical safety assessment the LogPow of the hydrolysis product isopropanol (0.05) is used.

A low logPow of magnesium-diisopropanolate was predicted by QSAR according to EPI Suite 4.11 (KOWWIN v. 1.68) and the data are used as supporting data. The predicted LogPow is -0.17 at 25°C. For magnesium hydroxide as an inorganic substance no logPow can be determined.

Based on the available data it can be considered that magnesium diisopropanolate and its hydrolysis products isopropanol and magnesium hydroxide have a low potential for bioaccumulation.
