- Endpoint:
- boiling point
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- From 03/07/2012 to 24/07/2012
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study with acceptable restrictions
- Remarks:
- The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. Substance ID is adequately specified with purity. Validation applies, with minor restrictions due to heating rate.
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- OECD Guideline 103 (Boiling point/boiling range)
- Deviations:
- yes
- Remarks:
- heating rate slightly exceed maximum of 1K/min as recommended
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.2 (Boiling Temperature)
- Deviations:
- yes
- Remarks:
- heating rate slightly exceed maximum of 1K/min as recommended
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Remarks:
- inspection 15-16/11/2011, decision 12/03/2012, signature 01/05/2012
- Type of method:
- method according to Siwoloboff
- Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Storage condition of test material: Refrigerator (between 0 and 10°C under nitrogen)
- Boiling pt.:
- 284.5 °C
- Atm. press.:
- 97.5 kPa
- Decomposition:
- no
- Key result
- Boiling pt.:
- 286 °C
- Atm. press.:
- 101.325 kPa
- Executive summary:
The boiling point of the test substance was determined under GLP according to OECD 103/EU A2 guideline, Siwoloboff (capillary) method.
Two main runs were performed, and the mean value was retained.
The measured boiling point was 284.5°C under 97.5 kPa, and 286°C (559K) corrected to normal atmP.
Reference
STAGE OF TEST | TEMPERATURE (K)
PRELIMINARY TEST | DETERMINATION 1 | DETERMINATION 2
Beginning of measurement | 304 | 511 | 512 |
Bubbles were emerged from the capillary | 562 | 557 | 558 |
Atmospheric pressure (kPa) | 97.5 | 97.5 | 97.5 |
Both determinations are within the limits of accuracy (+/-2K), therefore the average value is retained: 557.5 K.
Description of key information
Measured boiling point = 284.5°C under 97.5 kPa; Corrected boiling point = 286°C to normal atmP.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
- 286 °C
Additional information
A reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized OECD/EC method and under GLP, is available. Despite minor deviation due to heating rate, it is considered as a key study. The result is retained as key data.
