Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: REACH guidance on QSARS R6
Version / remarks:
Version of May 2008
Principles of method if other than guideline:
An attempt was made to measure the flammability of Solvent Red 500 according to method A10 of regulation 440/2008. The material is a very hard waxy solid. Method A10 is suitable for powdery, granular or paste-like substances, that can be shaped into an unbroken strip. Technically this is not possible with this material.

REACH Annex XI allows for adaptation of certain testing requirements if certain conditions are fulfilled, in particular if testing is technically not possible, and if results from a reliable QSAR method can be used to conclude on a particular end point.
Based on the known structural similarity to other materials, Solvent Red 500 is not expected to be flammable.
A QSAR approach using USA EPA T.E.S.T was used to estimate the flammability.

Executive summary:

The results was as follows:

QSAR Results using T.E.S.T: Flash point > 400°C  Not flammable

Description of key information

In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the flammability (pyrophoric properties and flammability on contact with water) studies (required in section 7.10 of Annex VII) do not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time and experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water.

Due to the physical form of Solvent Red 500, it was found to be technically challenging to test for flammability.

A conclusion on flammability was drawn based on:

A QSAR approach concluding: Not flammable

Read across to an analogue substance concluding: Not flammable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on a weight of evidence from the properties of Solvent Red 19E as an analogue, and using a QSAR approach, it is concluded that the substance Solvent Red 500 is not flammable.
