RANGE-FINDING / PRELIMINARY STUDY
- Test concentrations : LC50 (96-h) > 100 mg/L, Rice fish (Oryzias latipes)

After acclimatisation period, the fish (Cyprinus carpio) were transferred into the test media under flow through conditions. Exposure concentrations were analytically verified at days 4, 7, 14, 21, and 28. The analytical values show that the nominal concentrations of 0.5 and 0.05 mg/L were maintained at about 100 % using solubiliser, respectively. At days 4, 7, 14, 21 and 28 two fish each were removed from each test group. Body weight was determined. The fish were homogenised and extracted using organic solvents. The extract was analysed with HPLC. Due to the low bioaccumulation potential, no depuration phase was required.

Executive summary:

The purpose of this study was to determine the bioconcentration potential of the test material in fish under flow-through conditions. The study was performed according to the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals 305 (Bioconcentration: Flow-through Fish Test) adopted on June 14, 1996 using two test material concentrations for exposure to Cyprinus carpio. Two environmental concentrations of the test material of 0.001 and 0.0001 mg/L were used in this study. HCO-40 was used as vehicle. The exposure was maintained during the course of the study at about 100 % of the nominal concentrations. The concentrations were verified analytically using a HPLC method with UV detection. No signs of toxicity were observed throughout the study. The analysis revealed steady state BCFs of 63 and 53 (mean: 58). Due to the low bioaccumulation potential, no depuration phase was required. A read-across approach to the structural analogue 4-[difluoro(3,4,5-trifluorophenoxy)methyl]-2',3,5-trifluoro-4''-propyl-1,1':4',1''-terphenyl, CAS 303186-36-9 was applied for the endpoint "Bioaccumulation" (reference 5.3.1-1).
