Description of key information

4,4’-Dimethoxytrityl chloride is a white to slight pink crystalline solid having a melting point of 127 °C and no boiling point under atmospheric conditions as decomposition occurs after melting at approximately 150 °C. The relative density of the test substance at 20 °C is 1.28 and the vapour pressure at 20 °C is 1.6 x 10E-5 Pa. A water solubility of 3.0 mg/L at 20 °C was determined and the organic solid is considered non-flammable. With respect to the particle size distribution, a large part of the test item was present as agglomerates with a diameter above 1 mm and hence the test item was sieved with a mesh size of 1000 µm. Only 43% (w/w) of the test item passed the sieve and only this fraction was measured with laser diffraction. A median particle size D (v, 0.5) of 12.8 µm was determined and the log Pow of 4,4’-Dimethoxytrityl chloride was estimated by QSAR calculation and is 5.74.
