experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2002
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study without detailed documentation
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
flask method
Key result
Water solubility:
3 500 mg/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
4.1
Remarks on result:
other: standard deviation: 500 mg/L
Details on results:
Because of the expected instability in water (hydrolysis) the solubility was determined at pH 4 (aqueous buffer solution).
Conclusions:
Methyl valerate can be considered as highly soluble with a water solubility of 3500 +/- 500 mg/l measured at 20 °C and pH 4.1.
Executive summary:

The water solubility of methyl valerate in aqueous buffer solution (pH 4.1) obtained after equilibration at 20 °C was determined using the flask method according to the OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility). Measurements were made at 20 °C in accordance with the guidance A.6 of the European Community giving a solubility in aqueous buffer solution (pH 4.1) at 20 °C of 3500 mg/L. Therefore methyl valerate can be considered as highly soluble in water.

Description of key information

Methyl valerate can be considered as highly soluble with a water solubility of 3.5 +/- 0.5 g/l measured at 20 °C and pH 4.1.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
3 500 mg/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C
