Administrative data
First-aid measures
-General advice : Move out of dangerous area. Remove contaminated clothing immediately and dispose of safely.
-If inhaled : Make the victim breathe fresh air. Make the victim blow his nose. Seek medical advice immediately.
-In case of skin contact : Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical advice immediately.
-In case of eye contact : Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical advice immediately.
-If swallowed : Do NOT induce vomiting. In case of acute poisoning, lie the victim in half upright position. Call emergency medical care. Put the victim under medical supervision. Keep the victim warm.
Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
-Symptoms : Burns.
IN ALL CASES, ALERT A PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATLY.
Irritations.
Coughing, dyspnea (respiratory disorders).
Pulmonary oedema may occur, even several hours after exposure.
-Hazards : Risk of pulmonary oedema.
Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
Fire-fighting measures
Suitable extinguishing media : Product itself is non-combustible; Fire extinguishing method of surrounding
areas must be discussed.
Dry powder.
Extinguishing media that must not be used for safety reasons: Do NOT use water.
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:
In case of fire, the product may emit toxic and/or irritating fumes.
Hydrogen chloride (HCl)
Inorganic oxide(s) and carbonate(s)
Advice for firefighters:
Special protective equipment for firefighting: Wear a tight protection equipment. Use self-contained breathing apparatus.
Further information : Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment.
Accidental release measures
-Insulating breathing apparatus and anti-acid chemical suit.
Environmental precautions:
-Avoid any spreading of product.
Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up:
-General advice : Take up with absorbent material (eg sand, kieselguhr, universal binder) Sweep and shovel the solid product in a container adapted for its recovery or destroying (avoiding dust formation). Close and label rigorously.
-Cleaning of contaminated zone : Neutralize with sodium bicarbonate powder. After taking up the product, rinse the polluted area with water.
-Elimination of recovered materials : Deliver to Environmental service of the factory or to any specialized and approved disposal service.
Reference to other sections:
Additional advice:
-Evacuation of area and intervention of special services.
Handling and storage
Advice on safe handling (industrial scale): Local ventilation and emission point fume extraction. Enclosed transfer strongly recommended. Work in a defined area with restricted access.
Advice on safe handling (laboratory scale): Handling in a fume cupboard. Work in a defined area with restricted access recommended.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:
-Requirements for storage rooms and vessels: Keep in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.
-Advice on common storage : Do not store with strong oxidizing agents.
-Further information on storage conditions: Keep in a well closed container, away from air, moisture and light. Provide for a retention basin. Storage under dry inert gas (eg. nitrogen) recommended.
-Storage temperature : Keep at ambient temperature.
-Packaging material advised : Glass, polyethylene, polypropylene.
-Standard packaging : Double pastified barrel.
-Packaging material not advised : Metals which can be attacked like iron, aluminium etc Some caoutchoucs and plastics.
Sensitivity
Humidity : Decomposition.
