Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Hydrolysis: Half life of minutes at all three temperatures tested (5, 20, 25 degree C) at pH 4, pH 7 and pH 9.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
3.2 min
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Hydrolysis of a structural analogue of the substance, tetrahydromethylphthalic anhydride (MTHPA), has been investigated in accordance with OECD test methods. A pre-test showed the substance to be rapidly hydrolysed at pH 4, 7 and 9.

In the key study, the main hydrolysis study, HPLC-UV analysis measured decreasing MTHPA concentrations as a function of hydrolysis over time. MTHPA was found to hydrolyse fast resulting in formation of the respective di-acid. The calculated half-lives at 20 degree C are for all three pH values below 3.5 minutes (about 0.06 hours).
