Any other information on results incl. tables
In this study, rabbits were exposed to the substance at a concentration of 80% in water, for 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes and 20 hours.Observations were made after 24 hours and 8 days. From 15 minutes to 20 hours time exposure, there was persistent strong necrosis, oedema and reddening and there wasn't reversibility for the necrosis. This study (not GLP) has served to classify the substance in the EU as corrosive (R34). No details on the purity of the substance, the number and the strain of animals tested and the method used is given.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Interpretation of results:
- highly corrosive
- Remarks:
- Migrated information Criteria used for interpretation of results: EU
- Conclusions:
- The substance is regarded as highly corrosive. This result is cited in BUA (German advisory committee on existing chemicals) and has been used to classify the substance as corrosive by INRS (National Institute on Environmental and Industrial Risk)
- Executive summary:
The test substance was the subject of a skin irritation study in rabbits. No information on the guideline followed or method employed is reported. The study was not conducted to GLP. The substance was administered as an 80% solution in water. Rabbits were exposed to the solution for 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes and 20 hours. Observation was carried out after 24 hours and 8 days. Between 15 minutes and 20 hours exposure there was persistent strong necrosis, oedema and erythema. The necrosis was not reversible.
This result is cited in BUA (German advisory committee on existing chemicals) and has been used to classify the substance as corrosive by INRS (National Institute on Environmental and Industrial Risk).
