Description of key information

A 301F study was performed on Thioglycolic acid. With 95.8 % degradation and respecting the 10-day window, the substance is considered as readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Several supporting studies were carried out for assessing biodegradation potential of thioglycolic acid under different conditions. Due to methodological differences (adapted sludges, deviations in exposure conditions, temperature and/or pH adapted, etc), the conclusions of those tests regarding real biodegradation potential of thioglycolic acid are different. Nevertheless based on the available data the weight of evidence allows to conclude that thioglycolic acid is ready biodegradable.
