Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

First aid general principles - Important information

- In case of doubt or in the presence of symptoms contact a physician, and show him/her the material safety data sheet. In case of severe symptoms, call your local health care emergency number. Call a poison control center in order to receive toxicological advice for the clinical management of poisoning. Do not administer anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

First aid general principles - Inhalation

- In the case of respiratory symptoms (cough, dyspnea) move the person to fresh air, place in a semi-seated position, and administer oxygen. Provide artificial respiration if the person is not breathing.

First aid general principles - Skin contact

- Flush the skin with copious amounts of water (and soap, if possible) for at least 15 minutes. Consult a physician if there are symptoms of skin irritation and/or pain.

First aid general principles - Eye contact

- Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Flush the eyes, kept open, with copious amounts of running water for at least 15 minutes. Consult a physician, especially if there are symptoms of eye irritation and/or pain.

First aid general principles - Ingestion

- Do not administer anything by mouth unless advised to do so by a poison control center. Do not induce emesis. Rinse the mouth and consult a physician.

- If the patient is vomiting and unconscious, place him/her in the recovery position.

Fire-fighting measures

Product specific hazards and other issues

- This substance will float and can be reignited on surface water.

Extinguishing Media

- Foam.

- Water fog.

- Dry chemical powder.

- Carbon dioxide.

- Other inert gases.

- Sand or earth.

Unsuitable Extinguishing Media

- Do not use direct water jets on the burning product; they could cause splattering and spread the fire.

- Simultaneous use of foam and water on the same surface is to be avoided as water destroys the foam.

Combustion Products

- Incomplete combustion is likely to give rise to a complex mixture of airborne solid and liquid particulates and gases, including H2S, SOx, carbon monoxide and unidentified organic and inorganic compounds.

Protective Equipment for Firefighters

- In case of a large fire or in confined or poorly ventilated spaces wear full fire resistant protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with a full face-piece operated in positive pressure mode even because the substance coulde release H2S, SOx, carbon monoxide and unidentified organic and inorganic compounds.

Accidental release measures

In cases of accident/spillage there is an Emergency Plan for minimizing the substance emissions and the consequent potential exposure.

General information

- Stop or contain leak at the source if safe to do so.  Avoid direct contact with released material.  Stay upwind. In case of large spillages, alert occupants in downwind areas.

- Keep non-involved personnel away from the area of spillage. Alert emergency personnel.

- In case of spillages, the feasibility of any actions should always be assessed and advised, if possible, by a trained, competent person in charge of managing the emergency.

Personal protection equipment for emergency responders is required in accordance with internal operating procedure. Further details are given in the "RMM_details" which is attached in section 13 of the Registration Dossier.

Spillages onto Land

- Prevent product from entering sewers, rivers, waterways or other bodies of water.

- If necessary dike the product with dry earth, sand or similar non-combustible materials.

- Large spillages may be cautiously covered with foam, if available, to limit fire risk. Do not use direct jets.

- Absorb spilled product with suitable non-combustible materials.

- Collect free product with suitable means. Transfer collected product and other contaminated materials to safe disposal.

- In case of soil contamination, remove contaminated soil and transfer it to safe disposal. Further details are given in the "RMM_details" which is attached in section 13 of the Registration Dossier.

Spillages on water or at sea

- In case of small spillages in closed waters (i.e. ports), contain product with floating barriers or other equipment.  Collect spilled product by absorbing with specific floating absorbents.

- If possible, large spillages in open waters should be contained with floating barriers or other mechanical means.  If this is not possible, control the spreading of the spillage, and collect the product by skimming or other suitable mechanical means. - The use of dispersants is advised against.

- Collect recovered product and other materials in suitable tanks or containers for safe disposal. Further details are given in the "RMM_details" which is attached in section 13 of the Registration Dossier.

Handling and storage

According to the Company internal procedures, the manufacturing and use of this substance take place under strictly controlled condition such as its handling and storage.

- The substance is handled only by trained and authorized personnel.

- In the case of cleaning and maintenance works, special procedures are applied before the system is opened and entered.

- Substance-handling procedures are well documented and strictly supervised by the site operator.

- The storage is made in dedicated storage tanks, away from heat sources, drains and watercourses.

Further details are given in the "RMM_details" which is attached in section 13 of the Registration Dossier.

Exposure controls / personal protection

According to the Company internal procedures, the manufacturing and use of this substance take place under strictly controlled conditions.

- The substance is rigorously controlled from its manufacturing to its use as intermediate (i.e. its manufacturing and use occur in a “closed and controlled system”, except for cleaning and mantainance of equipments: in this case, very strictly procedures are followed by the operators who wear Personal Protective Equipments as atmosphere-supplied devices).

- Procedural (Standard Operating Procedures for use) and control technologies are used to minimize emission and any resulting exposure.

Further details are given in the "RMM_details" which is attached in section 13 of the Registration Dossier.

Stability and reactivity

Stability

- The substance is stable under usual use conditions.

Incompatibilities

- The substance is not compatible with oxidant agents, strong acid and bases.

Disposal considerations

No waste is generated during the manufacturing process.

- Wastewater originated during cleaning and maintenance operations and routine process is conveyed to the industrial wastewater treatment plant.

- Gas come from the plants and storages captured by aspiration systems are conveyed to the Combustion Plant.

Further details are given in the "RMM_details" which is attached in section 13 of the Registration Dossier.
