The acute aquatic toxicity of cyclododecane was determined in toxicity tests with organisms from three different trophic levels (fish, daphnids, algae).

The acute effects of cyclododecane on Cyprinus carpio were investigated by Hüls AG (1997) in a 96-h test according to EU method C.1. The concentration tested (limit test) was obtained by Water Accomodated Fraction. The test item concentration was analysed by means of TOC. The mean concentration was determined as 1.0 mg/L. The LC50 (96 h) was determined as >1 mg/L

The acute toxicity of cyclododecane to Daphnia magna was tested by Dr. Noack Laboratories in a limit test according to OECD 202. At the saturated solution of the test substance no effects on Daphnia magna were obsreved. The EC50 (48 h) was determined to be >11.6 µg/L.

The growth inhibition of cyclododecane on Scenedesmus subspicatus was studied in a 72-h growth inhibion test according to EU method C.3. Algae cell numbers were determined at six test concentrations ranging from 0.14 mg/L to 2.1 mg/L plus controls at daily intervals. No effects were observed at any test concentration within the study period. Thus the EC50 was determined to be >2.1 mg/L.
