Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

melting point: 85.4°C, handbook data, no GLP, no OECD, RL2

melting point: not determinable due to solid/solid conversion/partial melting at 48°C and at 85°C, OECD Guideline 102; GLP, RL1

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The melting point of 1,4 -Dioxane-2,5 -dione according to CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (84th Ed) is 85.4°C. In a new conducted study according to OECD test guideline 102, GLP-compliant, the melting point of the test item could not be established using differential scanning calorimetry due to the appearance of two endothermic peaks. These peaks occurred at approx. 48°C and at 85°C. It was assumed that the substance undergoes biphasic melting presumably simultaneously with solid/solid conversions. The peak at 85°C was higher than that occurring at the lower temperature supporting the older measurement reported in the CRC handbook. However, since two defined peaks were detected the melting point could not be exactly determined.
