- Executive summary:
The melting point of BLUE GS 5664.80 has been determined in the current study performed following OECD TG 102 according to GLP. The selected method is Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC).
In a preliminar test, the quantities of heat absorbed or released off were measured and recorded at heating rate of 20 K/min from 25 °C to 400°C.
Before and after the test, the weight and the appearance of the sample were determined.
A not well defined endothermic heat effect was observed between 50°C and 150 °C. An exothermic heat effect starts at about 250 °C. After the experiment, the sample had lost 13.8 % of its mass and the sample was black and powdery, which indicates that no melting occurred.
In order to confirm the result of the preliminary test a further DSC-run was recorded as main test between 25°C and 400°C with a heating rate of 10 K/min. In this run, no relevant endothermic heat effect was observed. During this run, the sample lost 9.7 % of its mass. After the measurement the sample was still a powder and colored black.
In conclusion, BLUE GS 5664.80 does not melt under the conditions of the test, meaning that melting point is >400°C.
