Description of key information

The hydrolysis of 1,1-Dimethylpropyl 1-methoxycyclohexyl peroxide as a function of pH was assessed according to the OECD 111 Guideline and GLP requirements.

The hydrolysis of the test item was assessed in aqueous buffers at pH 1.2 at 37°C and pH 4, 7 and 9 at 50 ± 0.5°C.

The mean recovery of test item, compared to T0, remaining after 5 days was determined to have changed by more than 10% for pH 4, 7 and 9 only. This indicated that the test item was clearly hydrolytically unstable at these pH and significant hydrolysis had occurred.

At pH 1.2 the test item was not detected at T0 and T5 days which indicates that test item is not soluble in this buffer or very quickly hydrolysed.

The definitive test was conducted at pH 4, 7 and 9 (15, 37 and 50°C):

- The half-life of the test item at pH 4.0 and 25°C was determined to be 8.23 hours.

- The half-life of the test item at pH 7.0 and 25°C was determined to be 766.35 hours.

- The half-life of the test item at pH 9.0 and 25°C was determined to be 1089.10 hours.

Identification of hydrolysis products was performed combining UPLC/MS/MS and UPLC/MS-HR (high resolution) experiments. As it was expected, no response was observed on the UV chromatographic profiles for any samples. No more significant response was observed when using The Total Ionic Current (TIC) mass spectrometry signal. Trying to extract signal from the background it was found some masses which could be related to the test item but without certainty: proposed structures of the hydrolysis product from the test item are very hypothetical. In addition, the presence or absence of these products were detected in a completely random manner regarding pH, time and temperature. Because the mass spectrometry response can vary dramatically from one compound to another and due to the absence of commercially corresponding substances no quantification was possible.
