Description of key information
Appearance:
On the basis of physical observation and using the sense of smell, N,N-diethyl-p-(phenylazo)aniline was observed to be a solid powder having orange color.
Melting point:
The melting point determination of N,N-diethyl-p-(phenylazo)aniline (CAS No. 2481-94-9) was done following OECD Guideline 102 and according to the metal block capillary method. The test was conducted in replicates and Mean Melting Temperature Range was determine to be 92-95.5°C at 966.73 hPa.
Boiling Point:
The boiling point determination of N,N-diethyl-p-(phenylazo)aniline (CAS No. 2481-94-9) was done following OECD Guideline 103 and according to the method of Siwoloboff, boiling point was determine to be greater than 300 °C at 968.5 hPa.
Density:
The density of test item N,N-diethyl-p-(phenylazo)aniline (CAS No. 2481-94-9)was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to the Adapted from ASTM D854-02 using pyknometer. The mean density of the test item was determine to be 0.3819 g/cm³ at 20°C and 965.95 hPa.
Particle size distribution:
The particle size distribution of test item N,N-diethyl-p-(phenylazo)aniline (CAS No. 2481-94-9 ) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determine to bein the range of 150 micron to 53 micron.
Vapour pressure:
Vapour pressure of 4-(Diethylamino) azobenzene is determined to be 1.1265E-8 kPa at 25 Deg C.
Partition coefficient:
Based on the available data from handbook and authoritative databases, the partition coefficient (log Pow) value of the substance 4 -(Diethylamino)azobenzene was estimated to be 5.27. On the basis of this value, chemical 4 -(Diethylamino)azobenzene can be considered to be hydrophobic in nature.
Water solubility:
Water solubility of 4-(Diethylamino) azobenzene is determined to be 0.264 mg/L at temperature 25 Deg C.
Surface tension:
Based on the data from ACD labs, surface tension for 4-(Diethylamino)azobenzene was predicted to be 0.0371 N/m.
Flash point:
The flash point determination of N,N-diethyl-p-(phenylazo)aniline (CAS No. 2481-94-9)was done following closed cup method using Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus. The test was conducted in replicates and mean flash point was determine to be 195.3°C at 967.16hPa.
Auto flammability:
4-(Diethylamino)azobenzene did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that 4-(Diethylamino)azobenzene is not auto-flammable.
Flammability:
4-(Diethylamino)azobenzene does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that 4-(Diethylamino)azobenzene is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus 4-(Diethylamino)azobenzene was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Explosiveness:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.
Oxidizing properties:
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance contains oxygen or halogen atoms which are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.
pH :
The pH determination of test item N,N-diethyl-p-(phenylazo)aniline (CAS No 2481-94-9) was done following OECD guideline 122. pH of 1% w/v dispersion was measured with the help of pH meter and it was observed to be 4.90 at 26.8 °C.

From other reliable sources it is concluded that N,N-diethyl-p-(phenylazo)aniline physically appear as a solid.
Melting point:
