Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

Reference
Name:
0142 2-ETHYLHEXANSÄUREDECYLESTER
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
liquid
Reference substance:
0142 2-ETHYLHEXANSÄUREDECYLESTER
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT assessment of the substance is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2017).

Persistentcy assessment

Based on the available data, Decyl 2-ethylhexanoate (CAS 93777-46-9) is considered to be readily biodegradable. Thus, the substance does not meet the screening criterion for persistence and it is not considered to be P or vP.

Bioaccumulation

The substance is readily biodegradable and thus not persistent (P or vP). Therefore, no B-assessment was carried out since it is only required if the substance fulfills the P or vP criteria, according to the guideline (Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment Chapter R.11: PBT/vPvB assessment, 2017).

Toxicity

For the substance Decyl 2-ethylhexanoate (CAS 93777-46-9) the available acute effect concentrations are > 0.1 mg/L (fish, aquatic invertebrates, algae) and the chronic effect concentrations (daphnia, algae) is ≥ 0.01 mg/L for algae and > 2.8 µg/L for daphnia, which is above the limit of water solubility. Therefore, the criteria set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 are not met and the test substance is not considered to meet the T criterion.

In conclusion, the substance is not PBT/vPvB.
