water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2002
Reliability:

Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: screening method (solvent: DMSO)
Water solubility:
0.014 g/L
Remarks on result:
other: temperature range of 25 to 30°C
Conclusions:
The water solubility of Hydroxyprogesterone was 0.014 g/L at 20-30°C.
Executive summary:

The water solubility of 0.014 g/L was determined in "pretest quality" using a screening method based on the detection of the beginning of precipitate formation upon portion-wise addition of an organic solution of the respective test substance under continuous stirring into an excess volume of water while maintaining a temperature range of 25 to 30 °C. Due to the specifics of the screening method, the above value is expected to represent an upper limit which should not be exceeded by the test substance in its crystalline form. The solubility lies well below the lower limit set by the VCI guidance of 0.1 g/l. Therefore no further measurements are necessary within the scope of this study.
