Additional information

Phototransformation in air

After evaporation or exposure to the air, phthalonitrile will be photodegraded slowly by reaction with OH radicals (half-life = 349 d).

Hydrolysis

Due to the structural properties, hydrolysis of phthalonitrile is not expected.

Biodegradation

Not readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria but readily biodegradable after use of adapted inoculum. Furthermore, phthalonitrile can be easily eliminated from water.

Bioaccumulation

Significant accumulation in organisms is not to be expected.

Adsorption / desorption

Adsorption of the substance to the solid soil phase is not expected under environmentally relevant conditions.

Henry's Law constant

Phthalonitrile is not expected to evaporate into the atmosphere when released to the water surface.
