Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
21-04-2017 – 21- 04-2017
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study
Justification for type of information:
Experimental result performed using standard methods of analysis
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: As mentioned below
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The freezing point of a pure sample is determined by making measurements of the temperature as a function of time while the sample is submerged in a constant temperature bath at a temperature below that of the expected freezing point of the sample. The data (Temperature vs. time) is plotted; this plot is known as a cooling curve. The freezing point is the value of temperature in the flat portion of the curve.
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
other: Cooling Curve
Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Name of test material (as cited in study report): 1-methylpiperidin-4-ol
- Molecular formula: C6H13NO
- Molecular weight: 115.175 g/mol
- Substance type: Organic
- Physical state: Liquid
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
-11.24 °C

970.2 hPa
Remarks on result:
other: other details not available
Conclusions:
The Mean Freezing point of 1-methylpiperidin-4-ol; CAS No. 106-52-5 was determined with Method according to Cooling Curve and it was found to be -11.24 °C at 970.2 hPa.
Executive summary:

The Freezing point determination of 1-methylpiperidin-4-ol (CAS No.106-52-5) was done using crushed ice and salt. The determination was done on the basis of

cooling curve (time vs temperature) obtained when the test item was placed in the cooling bath. The freezing point was determined to be -11.24°C at 970.2 hPa.

Description of key information

The Mean Freezing point of 1-methylpiperidin-4-ol; CAS No. 106-52-5 was determined with Method according to Cooling Curve and it was found to be -11.24 °C at 970.2 hPa.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
-11.24 °C

Additional information

The Freezing point determination of 1-methylpiperidin-4-ol (CAS No.106-52-5) was done using crushed ice and salt. The determination was done on the basis of cooling curve (time vs. temperature) obtained when the test item was placed in the cooling bath. The freezing point was determined to be -11.24°C at 970.2 hPa.

Based on other supporting data from safety data sheets and authoritative database, the freezing point of chemical 1-methylpiperidin-4-ol is determined to be in the range of 26°C to 31°C. As the data from lab has K1 reliability and the test was performed using standard methods of analysis which has the value of freezing point as -11.24°C, thus considered as key study for the chemical safety assessment.
