Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
relative density
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
No data
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Remarks:
The study was conducted according similarly to internationally recognised method, and test substance is adequately specified with purity. However the study is not under GLP, and calibration was partly not suitable. Therefore validation applies with minor restrictions.
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 109 (Density of Liquids and Solids)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
calibration with water and air
Principles of method if other than guideline:
No guideline cited in the report, but protocol identical to OECD.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
oscillating densitimeter
Key result
Type:
relative density
Density:
1.037
Temp.:
25 °C

Calculation of the relative density

Relative Density (D25/25) = 1.03355 g/cm3/ 0.99704 g/cm3= 1.0366
Conclusions:
The substance is slightly denser than water.
Executive summary:

The relative density of the test substance was measured using oscillating densitimeter method. After calibration using air and water, a sample was measured in triplicate at 25 °C, and the mean relative density was calculated towards water at 25°C.

The relative density of the test substance (d25/25) has been determined to be 1.0366.

Description of key information

Measured density = 1.034 g/cm3 at 25°C. Relative density (d25/25) = 1.037.
The substance is slightly denser than water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Relative density at 20C:
1.037

Additional information

A reliable experimental study, conducted similarly to OECD method, is available. Despite minor restrictions (due to technical inaccuracy) it is considered as a key study. The result is retained as key data.
