Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties which include oxygen, but the calculated oxygen balance is less than - 200
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The cationic part of the substance contains a 'N-O' bond. This bond is indicated in Appendix 6 of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria (6th revsion) as a chemical group indicating explosive properties in organic materials. Therefore the oxygen balance was calculated:

Oxygen balance for the substance molecule (C23 H46 N4 O6 S, Mw 506.7)= -199; this is just above the criterium of < -200.

As two oxygens are needed to to form SO2 in a combustion reaction, a recalculation was performed using the sum of S and C atoms (instead of the number of C atoms) which resulted in an oxygen balance of < 200 (i.e. -205).

Furthermore, the substance is not manufactured for the purpose of being an explosive and experience in handling did not reveal any explosive properties of the substance.
