Description of key information

Based on the negative logPow value, the low molecular weight and the presence of the OH-group for phase-II metabolism, the substance is judged to have no potential for bioaccumulation.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Bioaccumulation potential:
no bioaccumulation potential

Additional information

DAHP is used in research mostly in cell culture studies or by intraperitoneal injection; it has not been developed as a drug. The doses used in research are fairly high, e.g. 5 - 10 mM in cell culture and 0.5 – 1 g/kg bw for intraperitoneal injection. DAHP is a

selective, specific inhibitor of GTP cyclohydrolase I, the rate limiting step for de novo tetrahydrobiopterin synthesis.

The absence of significant toxicity even at high doses in the oral toxicity studies indicate efficient first pass metabolism.
